SmartGart™
SmartGart™ is a software testing and diagnostics tool that performs a variety of AGP bus tests in order to determine the optimal settings for your graphics card to ensure system stability. The tests are run automatically when the computer is turned on; if your computer is functioning normally, you do not need to adjust anything.
You can manually adjust the AGP bus settings to meet the individual requirements of your computer. Once you have made the changes you can retest SmartGart™ by using the `Retest All' button.
Note: Changing these settings could result in system instability.
What do you want to do?
Set the AGP bus speed
The AGP speed, the rate in which data is transmitted, is determined by your motherboard. For optimal performance set the speed recommended by your motherboard manufacturer. Reducing the AGP bus speed may resolve problems of an unstable computer.
- From the Tree View pane, click SmartGart™.
- Click and drag the Control slider to the required setting.
Set Fast Write
- From the Tree View pane, click SmartGart™.
- Set Fast Write to On enables the CPU to transfer graphics data directly to the graphics accelerator.
- Select Retest to run the test for this function only.
Set AGP Write
- From the Tree View pane, click SmartGart™.
- Set AGP Write to On enables the graphic accelerator to write directly to the system's memory.
- Select Retest to run the test for this function only.
Set AGP Read
- From the Tree View pane, click SmartGart™.
- Set AGP Read to On enables the graphics accelerator to read graphics data directly from the system's memory.
- Select Retest to run the test for this function only.
Set PCI Write
- From the Tree View pane, click SmartGart™.
- Set PCI Write to On enables all installed hardware devices to write data from the systems memory.
- Select Retest to run the test for this function only.
Set PCI Read
- From the Tree View pane, click SmartGart™.
- Set PCI Read to On enables all installed hardware devices to read data from the systems memory.
- Select Retest to run the test for this function only.
Run all SmartGart™ tests
- From the Tree View pane, click SmartGart™.
- Click Retest All button runs all SmartGart™ diagnostic tests.
Apply your settings
- Click Apply to save your changes and leave the Catalyst® Control Center open.
- Click OK to save your changes and exit the Catalyst® Control Center.
Discard your settings
- Click Discard to ignore any unsaved changes and restore the settings that existed when the Catalyst® Control Center was opened or the last time Apply was used. Discard does not close the Catalyst® Control Center.
Clicking Discard applies to all features of an aspect, not just the feature in the current view.
